Returning to this subject, because I finally found some time to continue... Thank you for your answer and tip, however I still have some doubts where I should chnage the default to wide green values.

My functions.php file in theme folder has following content:
if ( function_exists('register_sidebar') )
register_sidebar();
add_filter('comments_template', 'legacy_comments');
function legacy_comments($file) {
if(!function_exists('wp_list_comments')) $file = TEMPLATEPATH . '/legacy.comments.php';
return $file;
}

if ( function_exists( 'add_theme_support' ) )
add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );
Which part corresponds to default style?

Once again thank you in advance for your help.

Puckle, you just have to compare the two stylesheets and apply your mods to the new stylesheet, if you can remember them.

Nathan, can you rename Black letterhead 1.6 directory to something simple like blackletterhead. Maybe your server is getting errors since it has problem reading the folder name.

I just saw your website. I haven't done a header like that at all. I assume that you can put three different images with different links inside the header div. You just have to assign different CSS classes on each image to control the location of each image. I think it's possible.

The theme stopped working for me completely out of the blue. I thought maybe someone here could suggest some things to try.

Background: I've been using BL theme for a couple years, most recently 1.6. Suddenly my admin panel in WP 3.0 went down and all I got when I navigated to my blog was the long error message I've copied at the bottom of this message.

I downloaded BL 1.7.1 but I cannot even preview (let alone activate it nor any of the other BL versions). However other wp themes work fine. I've activated a different them just to have access to my site: http://www.thefridaycyclotouriste.com

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's the original error message:

Hi Ulysses, i've been using your Black-Letterhead theme for almost 4 years and I'm glad you keep updating it for meeting new WP 3.0 features :)

I uploaded BL 1.7.1 into a localhost blog and I'd like to change the navbar in order to have it look like as you showed in your forum "a few moons" ago :

http://ulyssesonline.com/forum/topic.php?id=14

In my blog you can see how pages are currently displaying at the top of BL 1.5 theme.

http://blog.simonecarozza.com

Is it possible to have the BL 1.7.1 navbar display with separate containers and colored containers (when hovered) ? Thanks.

I have the blackletterhead theme for my blog. I am trying to use the same banner .jpg photo for my blog header as is used on my website and forum. I have tried using the header updater through the dashboard and even tried copying the code into the CSS editor for the header. No luck. Seems like a fast simple job, but I just can't get it right.

I have used this code, and it still does not work:

#header {
background: #000000 url('http://www.bigdrumsmokers.com/Blog/wp-content/themes/blackletterhead/images/BDSBANNER.png
') no-repeat;

How to change the default style of Black-Letterhead? Normally by default it is selected Narrow-Orange, but I wanted to set it to Wide-Green for every visitor? Should I edit somewhere the CSS file? Sorry, I am not a pro, I was looking in the files, but I have no clue at the moment. Thank you in advance.

By default on single pages, the theme only display the post and not the sidebar. If you want the sidebar to appear on single posts, you need to follow the instructions here.

Hi :)

I have had the same issue. It seems that if one arrives one a single post through google, they get the post without the sidebar.
I recently made a homebutton which I added to the single post, because I was afraid I'd lose visitors.

If you google "agressie bij honden" and look for my website http://www.ikwileenbravehond.nl the link will take you to the single post and you can see what I mean. The link takes you to >>Blog Archive>>.

It is not so much a problem for me now, just wanted to clarify the issue for the others.
Hope this helps :)

Ulysses,

Thanks for the feedback. Thought I would let your know, I got my header image to load by using this line of code

#header {
background: #000000 url('images/Header.png') no-repeat;
}

It wasn't initially linking back to my header jpg because I had the "H" capitalized! Like I said, I have been at the CSS/blogging thing for about 3 weeks now. EVERYTHING is trial-and-error. But all-in-all, a great learning experience.

FYI: Image was not centering to page width so I added center between background: and #000000.

Your theme is the best out there

Best regards,
Brad

Yes, I'm not sure why it isn't the latest version, but no sense in upgrading now when I have everything (except for the header) the way I want it. I have uploaded the header to the host's file directory. It is in folder: wp-content/themes/black-letterhead/ (made a new folder titled images) and placed the header JPG in that folder.

Thank you for your help!

You need to upload the header file to your theme's directory. Then you can point the header image to your uploaded image. Are you using Black-Letterhead?

Hi,

I am extremely new to the whole css/wordpress thing. Everything I do is trial and error. I have gotten everything to look the way I want it except for the header. I have created a custom jpg header in Photoshop and have not a clue how to upload it to the blog. My site is being hosted by Fatcow (if this helps). Any help is extremely appreciated!

Hi Krycek,

I just noticed your message. I should check the Forum more often. Yes, some features of the toolkit overwrites the theme, but it can be easily fixed by editing the functions.php.

Figured it out myself - looks like toolkit is annoyingly overwriting some of the stuff in style.css

You can delete this topic if you want.

Hi,
Although I have this in my css file:

#header {
padding: 0;
margin: 0 auto;
height: 200px;
width: 100%;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: bottom center;
background: #000000 url('images/hunkrypta-logo-5.png') no-repeat;
}

I get that in page source after applying the theme

</style><style type="text/css">
#header { background-image: url('http://hunkrypta.co.uk/wp-content/themes/blh/images/header.png');}
</style>

New theme doesn't take any changes to the header it seems - please help

Regards

It seams that I have the same issue. It is generally not a problem for me, but the situation is the same: widgets show up without a problem for all static pages, etc., but for pages that host only one post, the widgets disappear. How is this possible?

Yes, I believe the Black-Letterhead theme at WordPress.com has a background feature which gives you this option. If you are self-hosted, you can research the WordPress Codex how to add background widget in functions.php so you can use it with the theme.

The widgets should display for both posts and pages. The theme calls the sidebar on both occasion.
